It saddens me that when I google the phrase “Woman Warrior”, I am bombarded by images of half-naked women posing with swords. On this day, the international day to celebrate women who struggle, we focus not on the images that prescribe a supermodel character that appears strong, yet exists for the earthly pleasures of others. No, instead we focus on the strength of women who take on the challenge of these false representations and work tirelessly each day to embody the true nature of the woman- a strong, steady healer, a warrior who not only nurtures but who demands the well-being and liberty for herself and those in her community.
In your practice today, take time to meditate on the quali
ties of yourself that are the deepest and most profound expressions of your true being. These qualities can be found as we internally explore what is at our core. It rests in the same place as our intuition, far deeper within ourselves than the superficial expectations of the society. Take time to honor yourself and to commit to the struggle of self-knowledge, self-love, and justice for our communities that surround us.
Yoga poses for strength, courage, and calm through the storm:
